Latex is already famous for being hypoallergenic, anti-bacterial, mold and mildew resistant, and for being inhospitable to dust mites. But how do you know if you're buying the real thing? Even with the surplus of information describing latex mattresses' benefits, you may ask, “What certifications should I look for in a mattress?” When searching for a latex mattress, a latex mattress topper, or any other bedroom-related furniture, it's important to consider what the products are composed of and what entities can support the retailers’ claims.
Companies that carry certifications recognize the importance of consumer health issues. Many times, these certifications are all a consumer can depend on to be sure they're buying a safe product. And yes, mattress certifications can seem confusing, but it's important to understand what they mean. Latex Mattress Factory has offered a brief overview of our certifications and the best mattress certifications to look out for.
OEKO-TEX Certifications
Products that are granted use of the Oeko-Tex label adhere to guidelines governing dangerous and harmful chemicals. They're free of any banned or controlled substances or substances thought to be harmful or currently being considered for banning. For instance, Oeko-Tex tests for illegal substances, such as carcinogenic colorants. They also test parameters for safeguarding your health, such as skin and mouth contact PH values and harmful emission tests.
Every year, Oeko-Tex latex mattress certifications are renewed based on a yearly audit. This annual audit ensures that the latex manufacturer meets the highest standards available. Oeko-Tex certifies all of our natural latex.

ECO-INSTITUTE Certifications
The eco-Institute is an independent testing institution, which tests and evaluates products to make sure they comply with chemical, analytical, and physical lab tests. The eco-Institute has laboratories to test a wide range of products, from floor coverings and latex mattresses to textiles and leather. When they test latex mattresses and bedding, they're primarily testing for the following and more:
- Harmful emissions
- Compound analyses for heavy metals, AOX/EOX, biocides, phthalates, and flame retardants
- Odor testing according to VDA
Oeko-Tex and eco-Institute certify all of our Latex Green natural latex. Latex Green is used exclusively in our latex mattresses, latex toppers, and latex cores.
